Starting January 1, 2026, the export validation done at airports in the Netherlands for tourists that shopped in the Netherlands and are leaving the EU from there is digital - you will no longer be able to get a stamp on a physical form (unless they are for purchases done in other EU countries).
To obtain this digital validation, the most direct way is through the Dutch government’s mobile app:
Download the NL Customs VAT app from the App Store or Google Play
At the airport:
Look for signs for Tax Free Validation.
Open the NL Customs VAT app.
Go near the customs validation area.
Turn on Bluetooth and location services on your phone.
Request export validation in the app.
Customs will digitally confirm that your goods are leaving the EU.
Complete Your Claim in the PIE App
Once your export validation is confirmed:
Open the PIE app and go to your refund claim.
Tap Confirm Customs Validation.
Follow the instructions to submit your claim.
PIE will review your submission. Once approved, you can withdraw your refund.
