If Denmark is your final departure point from the EU, you need to have your Tax Free documentation validated before you leave.
Where you should go depends on the airport or port you're travelling from. Customs validation is available at several departure points across Denmark, including:
Copenhagen Airport (CPH)
Billund Airport (BLL)
Aarhus Airport (AAR)
Aalborg Airport (AAL)
Copenhagen–Oslo ferry terminal
Port of Copenhagen
Port of Hirtshals
The validation process and opening hours vary depending on your departure point, so we recommend checking the instructions for your location before travelling. At some smaller airports, certain purchases can be validated by airport staff, while other purchases require a visit to a Customs office.
Before visiting Customs
Make sure your Pie VAT sticker is completed and attached to your original receipt. Bring your purchased goods, passport and ticket or travel itinerary with you.
Your Customs stamp can generally only be obtained within four hours of your departure on the day you're leaving Denmark, so don't try to complete the validation several days in advance.
Once your receipt has been stamped, take a clear photo of the stamped receipt and upload it to your claim in the Pie VAT app.
Travelling through another EU country?
If Denmark is not your final exit point from the EU, you will normally need to get your receipt stamped by Customs at your last EU departure point instead.
There is an important exception when flying: if your purchased goods are checked in from Denmark all the way through to your final destination outside the EU, Danish Customs should validate the purchase before the goods are checked in.
If you're unsure where to get your receipt stamped, chat with us directly in Pie VAT before you travel - we're happy to help 😊
